Age Is No Barrier
Too often we think of gymnastics, and sport in general, as a young person's game. However, a 1989 documentary short by the National Film Board of Canada does wonders to dispel that idea. Age Is No Barrier (24 min) follows a group of seniors at the University of Alberta, who call themselves "The U of Agers", as they explore and challenge themselves in the physical fitness realm; and more specifically their love of gymnastics. You're never too old to explore something you love.
My favourite quote from the film: "You've touched the fountain of youth: The gym floor."

2013-2014 Men's Program Tryouts
Tryouts for the Tumblers Gymnastics' Men's Program will be held on Sunday May 5th
Developmental & Pre-Competitive Programs (5 to 7 years old) - 1:00 pm
Interclub Competitive Program (8 years and older) - 3:00 pm
This is an open tryout, meaning everyone is welcome to attend regardless of gymnastics experience. There will be no routines or special skills required to try out.
Our coaches will be looking for the basic elements of any great gymnast: coordination, strength, flexibility, perseverance, fearlessness, listening skills and most importantly a big interest in the sport of gymnastics! The focus during the tryout will be less on demonstrating the gymnastics skills the boys already know how to do, and more on what kind of potential they have to learn what we have to teach them.
Please come ready to work hard and have fun dressed in a non-loose fitting t-shirt or tank top, shorts and bare feet.
Registration must be done prior to the tryout date. On site registrations will not be accepted. There is a $10 tryout fee which must be received to confirm tryout registration. Please register through the office in person or via telephone.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled tryout time.

Ontario Championships Results
Twenty nine medals were
taken home by the contingent of thirty five Orleans area gymnasts from Tumblers
Gymnastics Centre this past weekend following the men's and women's gymnastics
Provincial Championships in Windsor, ON. These young gymnasts ranging in age
from 9 to 19 years made a strong statement taking fourteen top eight all around
titles, with
two in the top three, and five gymnasts named as team and team alternates for
Team Ontario delegations.
On the men’s side, Eric
Gauthier took the Silver Medal AA (AA) in the National Youth category, with
event medals on Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings and Parallel Bars. In the National
Open Category, Tyler Glavind and Justin Perry tied for 7th AA with Justin
winning a Gold medal on Pommel Horse. In Level 4, Nicholas
Dugan won 3rd AA with Gold medals on Floor and Pommel Horse.
In the younger age groups there were a number of great performances
representing the culmination of a year's hard work, dedication and sacrifice,
all in the name of the sport they love. Philopateer Faltas placed 4th AA in
Level 2 (age 8-9) with Silver medals on Pommel Horse and Vault and Bronze on
Rings followed by David Gorman who placed 7th AA with a Silver on High
Bar.
On the Women’s side,
Julie Anne Fiset placed 4th in the Level 9, Age 10-11 category, with a Gold on
Beam, with teammate Alexandria Nolan placing 5th with a Bronze on Bars and
Floor. In the 12-13 year Level 9 Category, Beth Webster took
Gold on Beam and placed 8th AA. Sophie Paquin placed 7th AA
in the Level 8 age 12-13 category, with Silver medals on Bars and
Floor. In the Pre-Novice Aspire category Tumblers took to the
podium in force with Avery Rosales placing 5th AA with a Bronze on Beam, Bryanna
O’Grady placing 6th All Round and Juliette Chapman placing 7th AA with a Silver
on Beam and on Floor. In the Level 6 Age 12 category Chelsea Gauthier took 6th
AA with a Silver on Vault.
For some of these
athletes this competition was not only a chance to test their worth against the
best of the best in Ontario, but was also the qualifying competition to
represent Ontario at the upcoming Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championships
which will be held in St. John's, NL May 8-9, and Canadian Gymnastics
Championships which is to be held here in Ottawa at Carleton University from May
18th to 25th.
Representing Tumblers at
the Canadian Gymnastics Championships will be Eric Gauthier in the National
Youth category and Tyler Glavind in National Open category. Tumblers will also be represented
at the Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championships by Justin Perry in the National
Open category and Nicholas Dugan in the Provincial level 4 category and Julie
Anne Fiset in the Level 9 (age 10-11) category. Alexandria
Nolan qualified as the reserve athlete in Level 9 and Avery Rosales was named
reserve athlete for the Pre-Novice Aspire team. All Ontario teams remain
